How to recycle flexible plastic packaging in the UK
As part of our global sustainable packaging ambitions, at Mars we’re taking action to redesign our packaging portfolio as we work toward our goal of 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable packaging by 2025.
Alongside this, we are working to support the development of flexible plastic recycling infrastructure in the UK and make it easier and more convenient for our consumers to recycle their plastic packaging today.
In May 2021, we announced the launch of The Flexible Plastic Fund; a £1 million pound initiative that will see the roll out of flexible plastic recycling collection points in selected stores around the UK. The launch of this new cross-industry collaboration means that many people in Britain will be able to recycle their flexible plastic packaging while doing their weekly shop.

Additionally, we are partnering with Pets at Home in the roll out of dedicated in-store recycling points for flexible and aluminium lined pet food packaging. The initiative is currently in place in 40 stores in the UK and will be extended to further stores throughout 2021.
Participation in the programme is the latest example of our packaging sustainability programme in action and the launch of the scheme means more pet parents across the UK will now have access to flexible plastic recycling points, as we wait for kerbside collections to be fully implemented in the coming years.
