Today, we are very proud to announce the launch of The Flexible Plastic Fund; a £1 million pound initiative that will see the roll out of flexible plastic recycling collection points in selected stores around the UK. The launch of this new cross-industry collaboration means that many people in Britain will be able to recycle their flexible plastic packaging while doing their weekly shop.
We’re delighted to be a founding member of the Flexible Plastic Fund and believe that this is an important step in realising our ambition of creating a true circular economy where packaging never becomes waste.
The £1 million fund will guarantee a minimum price of £100 per tonne for recyclers, which we believe will incentivise much-needed investment in flexible plastic recycling infrastructure in the UK and make it easier for our consumers to recycle their plastic packaging.
Alongside our co-founders of The Flexible Plastic Fund, we are calling on other manufacturers, retailers and recyclers, throughout the country, to sign up to the scheme and join us in transforming the recycling landscape in Britain. It is our hope that this is the first step towards kerbside collection of flexible plastics.
The instore collection points will begin to open throughout the summer, and the entire Fund will be audited and fully transparent. If you’d like to know more, or would like to sign up to support – please head to: www.flexibleplasticfund.org.uk.
At Mars, we’re working hard to create the world we want to see tomorrow, and today’s announcement is an important milestone as we work toward our goal of 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable packaging by 2025.
